Here are some tips to keep in mind
as you prepare your resume.
Tailor your resume for the job you are applying for. Only list jobs or experiences that are relevant.
Actively sell yourself by focusing on accomplishments and results rather than routine job descriptions.
Be conscious of the chronology of your employment history. The reader will be looking for reasons to eliminate as many resumes as possible. Resumes with gaps of time are often overlooked.
Select strong "Power Words" for emphasis and use concise phrases and clauses rather than complete sentences.
Try your resume out on someone who knows you and isn't afraid to offer an honest and objective opinion.
Have a list of references prepared in advance and only provide them when requested.
Be sure to include a cover letter with each resume that you send out. The letter should be written so that it is specific to the company you are applying at. Try to avoid writing a "form letter."
